The use of breathing is a good way to access emotions. I have a similar situation, though EMDR did trigger a lot for me. I constrict my breathing and through working with that, improving my breathing and being aware of it, I have been able to let myself feel more and so forth. I have also done bioenergetics. My T and I have tried a variety of approaches and techniques according to my space and response etc. We have used some EMDR and then moved away from it, then back to it again and so on.
Just talk with the Therapist if you are uncertain. Ask questions and so forth. A good therapist is willing to answer questions.
