    After 2 EMDR sessions....
NEW EMDR client · 10/11/02 at 12:17 ET

"...if you want you are free to come back and report upon your experiences with EMDR and whether and how resistance entered into your processing."

Have now had two sessions with sets of EMDR, after the initial appointment. First sets were unremarkable with no sensations or memories evindent. However, did sense a slight bit of detachment, and after another set just a touch of sadness, and a glimpse memory of my childhood home living room. Session ended at that point.

Next session, after a particularly stressful weekend, sensed nothing but "blank" after each set of EMDR. Was quite disappointing, but not unexpected. My history in therapy has been the lack of ability to recall specifics with which to work, or to feel anything but the depression.

BUT, this time, the therapist is suggesting that I have "blocked feelings." MAKES SENSE TO ME! She is the first to come to this conclusion. Could have much to do with the fact that she is a Bioenergetics Therapist, also. She has suggested that we will try the EMDR in one more session, and if it goes similarly that we will try some breathing exercises to attempt to better access the emotions thru Bioenergetics.

I have read Dr. Alexander Lowen's book, PLEASURE, but know very little of his work in Bioenergetics. Difficult to see that I don't know how to breath, or how changing the habit can help express emotions, BUT "talk therapy" has proven useless in my case, so I am willing to give it a try... for a while.
