I see what was confusing and why, from your informative post. I'd use the term "EMDR treatment session" to refer to a single session, whether standard length or extended, that includes bilateral stimulation. You are absolutely right, however, that the EMDR process includes lots of preparatory and followup work to the bilateral stimulation, to incorporate all eight phases. "A course of EMDR treatment" or an "EMDR treatment plan" would refer to the entirety of a treatment, over weeks or months, maybe longer, that would include many sessions of bilateral stimulation, ongoing discussion and reassessment and targeting of issues, and repeated cycling through some of the eight phases, only some of which sessions would include bilateral stimulation.
