I suppose a related question is: how directive is longterm t with the emdr aspect supposed to be? Or does this vary from practitioner to practitioner? I've only had two sessions (I'm DID and presume a period of talk therapy is essential before starting emdr) but I feel as though everything I have brought up has been responded to as "oh, this is how the protocol I use will work with that". I tend to think that statement is true, but I'd much prefer to hear a simple "how awful for you" at this point. Right now I feel like my therapist is long on technique and short on empathy. I know I am used to talk therapy, and I can bring up transference in talk t. I would feel very awkward bringing it up with this person. I guess I am asking, can emdr, done well, work even if there is NOT wholehearted trust in the therapist? I guess from what you said the answer is probably "no". But I'd appreciate it if you'd clarify. I feel "stuck". I want to see the best emdr t I can, but I feel like I have to choose between emdr expertise and empathy. (Of course, this may all resolve naturally... like I said, only the two sessions under my belt.)
