I can't make specific recommendations as to your case specifics here. I will make a few general comments that would apply to anyone. The use of any mood altering substance is very likely to interfere with EMDR processing significantly. EMDR relies heavily on the client being able and willing to access and notice a range of inner experiences, including disturbing feelings, thoughts and body sensations. Drugs like marijuana, alcohol, and others interfere with noticing those internal experiences. Long use of a chemical substance means it would take a while to clear out of the system, depending on drug involved it could be days to weeks to months. There are special EMDR protocols for use with substance abuse, including A.J. Popkys' "detur" protocol, Silke Vogelmann-Sine, Larry Sine's work, and others.
