Dr. Shapiro, Your final observation truly put things in perspective and made some valid points which are being sidestepped by the other party. I write to offer my support and gratitude for your work, and steadfast commitment to the healing of thousands. I too was a skeptic of EMDR, at first. But, the research is just a part of what has won me over. It has been personal experience and observation of others who have tried so many other therapies, only to find that EMDR was the therapy that made a true difference. The changes I've had, and the changes others I know who have had EMDR has been powerful, long lasting, much more so than any other modality I have tried. This is definitely NOT a placebo effect! Perhaps more than the research, will be the powerful testimony of thousands who have been helped. Afterall, the layperson does not care so much about the research as much as the result. And, the proof is in the pudding so to speak Sure, testimonials may not mean anything scientifically, but, when people heal to the extent that lives are turned around, it starts a wave that can only grow stronger. Fight the good fight. In the end, what is true will remain.
For all the skepticism that EMDR has already been under, proves that it is a powerful force to be reckoned with. What other therapy has been so thought provoking, so scrutinized?
