Everything but the kitchen sink . . . Reading the last post I found it hard to make heads or tails of the logic at times. I put myself in the shoes of the typical follower of this debate. Many are not strict researchers and would find Dr. Shapiro's posting hard to follow. However, if you didn't know better about what was actually being said in it, it would appear on the surface to be very impressive. However, throwing out as much technical information as possible in as short a period of time as possible results in readers being unable to make sense out of the important points that are relevant to this debate. I also fear that Dr. Shapiro may be attempting to make the debate so intricate and detailed that others will loose interest trying to follow it. (Let alone having the time to even read it!) This would be effective to get people to forget about us. Once again I find striking predictions from the writings of Lohr, Montgomery, Lilienfeld, and Tolin (1999) from the book "Response to Disaster: Psychosocial, Community, and Ecological Approaches." "Dissimulation is another common practice of pseudoscience…The first is the use of obscurantist language to compensate for the absence of content and to discourage skeptics." I see the last post as Dr. Shapiro's attempt to bury me in a mountain of references and detailed points. She would be content if I went back and carefully found the errors and alternate explanations in her interpretation of the evidence because it would "keep me busy" for some time. Maybe long enough for those on this discussion to forget about me? Obviously, I do not have the time to spend contradicting every claim that she presents. It would take a book to respond to such allegations and one-sided presentation of the evidence. Therefore, I'll attempt to boil things down for the benefit of others on this list. Once again, it's become hard to see the forest through the trees. Is this how some EMDR proponent's would like it? I wonder if the previous long posting was presented for just such a purpose. Stay tuned for my counter-arguments. They will be delivered shortly. Thanks again for your patience, Brian G.
