You are asking a difficult question. Every treatment effect is an interaction between client, clinician, and method. As far as EMDR is concerned, it has been found to be efficacious for PTSD. Controlled research with civilian trauma victims have shown 80-90% no longer have PTSD within 3 sessions. But this is not as rapid a treatment for multiple trauma victims. Pacing is important and you have to be in a clinical relationship you feel safe in. You need to make sure you find a clinician who is fully trained in EMDR and comfortable with your problem. You need to do whatever it takes to be honest with the clinician and give feedback about what you are feeling. There are many procedures and protocols to choose from in EMDR and your clinician needs to have your full participation. Whatever your fears or concerns, you need to be forthcoming with them. That's your part of the journey. A previous post includes the following: While this forum is very helpful, there are other places on the web that offer much needed support for the CLIENTS as they make this journey. This club includes a message board and has weekly chats by the members. I wish you a healthful journey--and ask you to get all the support you need. We all experience fear at different times. We all need the support of others. Please get what you need.

EMDR has helped millions of people. Research has shown clearly that it's not a "waste of time". And the fact that EMDR is comparatively rapid allows client and clinician to get the feedback necessary to choose from and alter protocols as needed. But you need to communicate directly with your clinician about your feelings. Get all the support you need from all sources. But make sure you speak directly and honestly to your clinician as well.
