Appropriate training has been specified by the EMDR International Association. It includes a certain amount of didactic and supervision hours and a variety of criteria. You can access the website at www.emdria.org. The EMDR Institute (www.emdr.com) provides a basic course divided into two parts to allow for clinician practice. Supervision and additional courses are available depending upon clinician need. As with any form of therapy, there is a bell shaped curve of those learning and those practicing the therapy. Each clinician has to find his or her own level of education to achieve expertise. The research indicates that 90% of single trauma victims no longer have PTSD after three sessions. If a clinician is not achieving that rate than more supervision and guidance is necessary. You need to make sure that your clinician is trained and experienced in your problem.
