Effectiveness of EMDR

My name is Christopher and I have been studying a lot about EMDR and different therapeutic models available to help those who have been through abusive situations and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the negative effects of EMDR would be.

I've been in therapy since 1988 and have not made much progress interms of recognizing early abuse situation, and seeing the relationship between my current problems and my past issues and was wondering if anyone can tell me more about what I can expect from EMDR.

I'm going to meet with a clinician on 9/7/99 for an evaluation. Some people tell me that it may evoke feelings that I am not ready for, but I am not interested in staying in therapy for the rest of my life either.
