There is no substitute for information obtained by a fully trained EMDR clinician who is familiar with your problem. Referrals to EMDR clinicians can be obtained from the EMDR Institute at inst@emdr.com or http://www.emdr.com. A list will be sent to you of all EMDR clinicians in your area. You might want to first call one of the people marked "facilitator" to see if they can recommend someone familiar with your particular problem. Then, I suggest interviewing a number of the listed clinicians to find one that best suits your needs. A description of EMDR for laypeople which gives an overview of the approach, types of problems amenable to EMDR, and generally asked questions can be found in my paperback book "EMDR" (BasicBooks). I also wrote it to educate the general public so that individuals could help keep their own therapy on track. I have answered a number of questions regarding specific applications in the messages above which were asked by perspective clients. However, I have been informed that this forum is actually only for professionals. Therefore, unfortunately, I will have to refer further client inquiries to the sources I have already mentioned, or to http://www.emdria.org. One of the messages about "fear" posted above by a client also mentions an EMDR client support group. I do not have first hand information about it, but assumedly you would be able to speak to other people who are receiving EMDR treatment. There are many wonderful, committed EMDR clincians all over the world who are looking forward to helping you. Just make sure that you spend some time in finding the right fit.
