Hi,
I have treated a client with adult ADHD who subsequently had a great deal of trouble with low self esteem. As Dr. Shapiro states, many of the issues are due to small t traumas that happen over the course of a person's life. Those with ADHD as a child are frequently given negative messages for their behavior and a variety of other behaviors related to ADHD. Naturally, they carry those messages into adulthood. This client has been very successful in terms of self-esteem, and is now trying new roles of leadership, takes pride in his accomplishments without letting the influence of those negative messages spoil it. I could go on and on concerning the changes he has made. We used EMDR throughout treatment during the course of a year's time. This client states he has been in therapy several times before, but has not had the shifts in thoughts and feelings as he has with EMDR.
Good luck on your journey to healing!
