The idea that information processing is a key outcome (operational mechanism perhaps) for EMDR does not necessarily imply that EMDR is the only type of therapy that facilitates information processing. Other (non EMDR) therapies can be quite effective and thus almost by definition they also can be understood to facilitate information processing. So, I think that EMDR is perhaps one way of facilitating information processing, but not the only way. My experience and some of the research would support the idea that bilateral simtulation (be it eye movements, sound or touch) facilitates information processing. Among my patients this seems to happen at a faster pace than other ways of doing therapy. We clearly need the component analysis research to show us the relative importance of each of the variables.
