I tend to visit this forum on occasion and, as a client, find myself insulted by the comments of Brian G. Give us some credit and please stop planting negative fears in people who may be susceptible to your pessimestic view. My therapist uses a variety of techniques including emdr and hynosis. I have asked about these techniques and I am the one who decides if, and when, they will be used. My therapist does not, by the way, use hypnosis to uncover repressed memories - that was clearly stated to me. My concern is not about my therapist convincing me that I've had trauma in my life, I already know that, rather, I am more concerned with a therapist using me to meet his/her own needs - an experience I had a number of years ago. This was not with a therapist who used emdr or hypnosis and, yet, this person, being a sexual predator, was able to set me up and use me. The particular techniques (emdr, hynosis, etc.) is not the concern. The concern is with the ethical and moral values of the therapist.
