I may start soon too. I'm thinking about it and doing some research on it. I'm an alcoholic in recovery and have been clean for about 2 years, but I am constantly fighting relapse. I see an addictions counselor who suggested that I try EMDR to deal with social anxiety and social phobia. The urge to drink often comes when I'm trying to deal with social situations, or I'm depressed because I avoid them and miss out on making friends, etc. I'd like to hear more about identifying a traumatic event or specific problem. How important is that? What if you can't think of anything specific? Is it generally a childhood event or could it be later (like during my drinking days)?
Just wondering...
