I have recently experienced a few emdr sessions. In response to Susan's comment - in no way have I felt controlled by my therapist. The control is in my hands and, as a result, I feel comfortable in continuing the use of emdr - as I am ready - as a part of my recovery journey. If a therapist exercises control over a client it has nothing to do with the particular therapeutic technique being utilized. Rather, in my opinion, the therapist is not being respectful of the client and is taking power away from that client. I am grateful that the therapist I am working with is quite aware of the need to, and importance of, the client having control and power in regards to therapeutic process and journey.
