What a great question -- I'm glad you asked for clarification. You are absolutely right. If one has dealt with past issues sufficiently to be sure they aren't contributing to present matters, then there really is no need to clean out the same closet again, is there. If, then, the only remaining issues to work on are the present day things that are interfering with current happiness, EMDR is often helpful for that as well. It isn't the only way, by any means, to deal with current issues, but it is helpful. EMDR often helps stimulate ones own thinking to promote several different viewpoints on the same matter, so that one gets greater clarity on what is most important, and gets unstuck, and more ready to take the next action steps. Glad to hear you got rid of those old shoes already -- now on to the stuff in the middle of the living room floor! Good luck to you.
