Parent training provides the most cost-effective, as well as efficacious, means for treating the broadest swath of children’s emotional and behavioral problems. We will describe a program for training parents to intervene with their children’s problems. In order to understand the full context of this program, we will briefly overview a number of models of child psychopathology. In addition, we will review current treatment approaches to the major categories of child psychopathology and their relative effectiveness. You will see that parent training stands out as a superior approach among the various treatment options.
