Mindfulness meditation certainly is a valuable tool in many forms of psychotherapy, as is the Buddhist philosophy that underlies the mindfulness principle. The Buddhist emphasis on letting go of attachments (not "clinging" to particular negative thoughts or feelings) seems to be an essential ingredient also in CBT. One element of the Nine Fold Path is "right" or "proper" thinking (i.e., non-attachment) - which could have been written by a CBT, were they around two thousand years or so ago (maybe they were!).
