I am wondering if there is any room for using genetic explorations in cognitive therapy? Having cut my teeth on Freud and, later Adler, I find it hard to give up some consideration of how a person's history has shaped their beliefs, attitudes and schemas. While I like cognitive therapy for it's demonstrated effectiveness, I almost get the feeling when reading some authorities that they think of thoughts as little quanta, somehow divorced from the thinker's self. Perhaps I need to ask whether anyone is writing on the integration of the neo-analytic approach and the cognitive approach? Thoughts?
