I believe I know one reason people resist taking responsibility for their pain and suffering. One, because it is in our nature to "blame" others. Secondly, and I speak for myself, here, I resist, or have resisted, because to take responsibility for my own pain/suffering would mean that I have to correct it. I have to stop the pain and suffering, myself, AND I DON'T KNOW HOW! I don't know how, as a very young child, I "survived" by stuffing emotions into my body which in turn popped out for all to see in the form of stomach disorders, back, neck and head pain, and HIVES all over my body. I didn't/don't know how I did it then, and I still don't know how I do it now, even after almost 20 years of counseling, therapies, (incl. Rapid Eye Therapy), chiropractic, therapeutic massage, accupressure, EFT (emotional freedom technique - or "tapping"), self-help books, etc. Even with the understanding that my pain IS my responsibility, and that I am the one causing it, I still don't know how to stop it.
