COGNITIVE THERAPY FORUM ARCHIVE
Re:Obsessions, doubts and worries
This is an excellent question and hopefully other forum participants will have suggestions. My initial thought is the difference may not lie in the content of the worry/concern/doubt but in how the individual deals with it. When the average person has a doubt, it bothers them and they try to resolve it but if they are unable to completely resolve the doubt, they can tolerate not knowing for sure. Individuals with OCD typically have a very low tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity. They cannot tolerate not knowing for sure and become preoccupied with trying to come up with a definite answer and can't let it drop. How does that sound?
