I have found the same thing. Any effort requested of persistently mentally ill patients including forensic inpatients is difficult when their level of functioning is restricted by poor acceptance of their ability to influence anything in their lives. They 'forget', simply are not interested because it is the judge or hospital who is given all the responsibility for getting them released. It is as if they are on a 'hunger strike' against any efforts to help themnselves. The only way I have found to foster a sense of cooperation is to use frequent, between session reminders. This is somewhat easier if time is spent on their inpatient units seeing what they are doing with their time all day.
