The interface between cognition, stress, and biology in schizophrenia
Jim Pretzer · 03/11/01 at 9:00 PM ET

The December 15, 2000 issue of the Journal of Biological Psychiatry (of all places) has an interesting editorial discussing the role of cognition in mediating reactivity to stress in schizophrenia. The basic idea is that when a situation is interpreted as being threatening, this triggers the release of cortisol, and high cortisol levels are associated both with positive symptoms of schizophrenia and with impaired cognitive functioning. Interesting.

The editorial and the rest of the journal can be found online at http://www.elsevier.nl/gej-ng/10/12/42/56/37/show/toc.htt.
