I hope nobody minds me adding my 2 cents to this thread, I'm just a random person who came to this website looking for some EMDR info.
From the the time I was 14 until now (I'll be 19 this fall) I've seen various therapists/psychologists for depression, anxiety, etc. When I was 15-16 I saw a therapist who's idea of therapy was to scream at me, call me a "little b*tch" repeatedly, tell me that I ruined everything, and threaten to hospitalize me if I didn't agree with her (often the subject she was insisting I agree with was that I was so lucky to have her as my therapist. Just recently I saw a therapist for about a month. After she'd assured me that everything was confidential and then sent me to a psychiatrist who also worked in that office, I saw him he went and got the the therapist's file on me and proceeded to sit infront of me and read it even as I told him I'd never signed a consent form for him to have acess to it. The next time I saw the therapist I was more than slightly angry and said so and wanted an explaination of why she lied about things being confidential. She told my my anger was extremely inappropriate (and I was NOT screaming, yelling, physically violent or threatening in anyway) and she proceeded to refuse to discuss the whole confidentiality thing and went on and on about how inappropriate I was. Moral of this longwinded thing is from what I've seen there are more bad/abusive therapists out there than there are good ones.
