From personal experience I would have to say that the main ingredient for true confidence is a sense of strength. Even the most confident person will most probably feel less than confident when he or she is feeling weak. Next, a person must have a clear view of his or her objective. It can be impossible to be confident if you do not have a clear idea of what exactly it is you are reaching for in life. Confidence is a state of mind based upon the faith that the life one is living is indeed destined for great success. Unless you truly believe that you will be successful in all the good things you are aiming for in life chances are you will not be able to maintain confidence for a long enough period of time to make any substantial differences in your living situation. Then there is the ‘show of confidence.’ I am thinking of the movie newly released on DVD called Saturday Night Fever. In it John Travolta could play the part of Mr confident when he was at the disco and among his Italian gang. It was a show for he really had no clear view of what he truly wanted to accomplish in life, but he and his friends did have the confidence that they could kick the asses of anyone who gave them any hassle in their neighborhood. So confidence in one’s ability to beat up the opposition can indeed be a clear goal that can give rise to at least a strong sense of confidence in certain areas of life. There is an innate sense of confidence that people are usually not aware of. People must have a sense of confidence that life is worth living or they will not be able to function. I imagine that many who have lost the confidence that life is worth living spend their existence as human vegetables in mental institutions. I believe the mind is so powerful that sustained moods can indeed change biological chemistry. Look in the mirror everyday and tell yourself that you are no good and a failure. Do this consistently with strong emotions for a long enough period of time and you will indeed become what you are programming yourself to see within your being. There is no substitute for powerfully flexible strength and what we truly believe has the tendency to actually manifest itself within our moment-by-moment lives. The power of faith should never be underestimated.
