I hope someone can help me. I am a Nurse Educator trying desperately to formulate a current Aggression Management Manual to ensure staff working within our Child and Youth mental health unit are up to date with management. Currently I teach theories of management, breakaway techniques and three person takedowns. My problem is that I believe physical control and restraint is used as a last resort to escort children who are unsafe to themselves or others, to seclusion. It is brief, prior to medication. I dont teach 'therapeutic control' which some medical staff are requesting, to hold down children for up to four hours at a time. I hope someone can help me. Perhaps I am wrong, and holding down for hours is the current treatment. Please let me know. thankyou. my email is bronwynlees@bigpond.com
