My 18 year old brother has been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder, Impulse control disorder, and ADHD. he was diagnosed in elementary school. In the past few years the problem has been getting worse. my family and i have been trying to help him but we are at the point that we cant physically, mentally, or financially afford to anymore.
the first time we knew for sure we had a problem on our hands was about 6 years ago. he was 12 years old, i was 14, and our little brother was 7 or eight. one day he chased after us with a butcher knife. he ended up going to the local mental hospital. all he remembers about it is being allowed to play nintendo and going roller skating.he doesnt remember the kids that misbehaved being wrapped up in blankets and sat on to keep them from hurting anyone.
in the past few years we ave had to fight to get him help. we have called the police and told them to put him in jail, but they wouldn't. they said he looked sorry anyway. then last fall he criminally threatened me and my visiting friend saying when he found his knife he would cut my throat. now that he was eighteen he was put in jail. when it went to court they told him it wouldnt go on his record IF he kept his nose clean. last week he was issued two tickets; one for shoplifting and one for possession of marijuana. now he must appear before court for all three crimes; criminal threatening, shoplifting, and possession of pot.
that isnt his only problem either. because of the criminal threatening, DHS wont let him live at home anymore. he is homeless. hes been staying at my grandmothers home. she was nice enough to take him in. now nobody can take it anymore. he cant keep a job more than 2 or 3 weeks because hes slow, doesnt want to work and his temper. his last job at napa auto he lost because he stole a part from them. he dropped out of school his senior year but failed al of his classes anyway. we just cant help him anymore. my mom is thinking about committing him to the local mental facility again in case he tries to commit suicide.
MY QUESTION IS WHAT CAN WE DO??? WE ARE OUT OF PATIENCE AND MONEY.
