I am a Creative Arts Therapy student interested in the possibility of establishing an online creative therapy service. With a growing generation of computer literate individuals it seems only logical to me to look into the feasibility of providing another means of communication in a medium that is rapidly gaining acceptance, accessibility and flexibility. I have already had some experience with therapy via email incorporating creative visualizations and affirmations and this has proved successful. I am however interested in expanding the creativity to a practical and hands on approach. Individual and ongoing therapy are options, as are theme-based projects targeting either online and/or real community groups. If anyone has any comments or suggestions on the feasibility of such a service, or knows of any existing resources that I might find useful, I would greatly appreciate your contributions.
Possible client groups would be:
Those who are isolated due to physical locality or perhaps bed ridden or wheelchair bound;
Those who find it difficult to express themselves verbally;
Those who find it easier to relate to others from a distance.
The clients that I would be targeting would need:
Web/email access (essential);
Accessibility to, and some skill in using one or all of the following:
web editors,
image manipulation software,
animation software,
sound editors,
file compressors
compilers.
Issues explored may be those that are already relevant or familiar with the online culture, such as depression, isolation, and disassociation.
