There is a theory that was proposed by Susan Bach, a psychoanalyst who worked with seriously ill children for many decades. She hypothesized that their drawings and paintings, if looked at in quadrants, could foretell the prognosis of their illnesses, perhaps even be predictive of forthcoming death. But this system is a bit different than the one you are describing (I never heard of that one either, eventho I have been in this 20 years); it also should not be used lightly and Bach's system was based on her work with a specific population and on Jungian principles. A book on Bach's work is LIFE PAINTS ITS OWN SPAN, if you are interested in looking her up. Most art therapists actually believe that the story a person tells about his or her image is what is important and that any type of analytic technique must be used with extreme care and with concern for the image-maker's interpretation.
