Just wanted to spread the word about a new on-line art therapy forum focusing on the topic of Vicarious The objectives of the forum are to provide support, resources, and a place for art therapists and art therapy students to share thoughts related to vicarious traumatization/compassion fatigue. The powerful work we do as therapists and working with intense visual images can sometimes become overwhelming on our own psyche and develop into our own struggles with PTSD like symptoms, burn-out, depression, etc. Students involved with internships, practicums, and field experiences can also be at risk and learning more about compassion fatigue prevention and self-care is very important. (For everyone!) The forum was created by Nicole Brandstrup MA, ATR in response to an art therapy and vicarious traumatization focus group facilitated by art therapist Terri Sweig at the 2000 AATA Conference in St. Louis. Many art therapists and students who attended this focus group felt having a forum addressing this topic would be a good idea. I've been helping out in getting it started with Nicole and invite you to visit the forum. The forum can be found at: The Art Therapy Student Networking Forum at delphi is also still going strong and any art therapy students wanting to connect with other students and network- please check the forum at: www.delphi.com/atstudents Thanks!
