Hello to all and let me just take a minute to thank you for the wonderfully insightful posts on this site.
I am currently a Licensed Social Worker with a B.A. in Family Studies. I would also consider myself to be a writer, although I have yet to be published. I am at a point in my life where I have a deep desire to pursue my creative side and would like to finally start on my graduate degree. The problem?? I cannot decide which degree I should get. I love counseling people, trying to figure out what makes them "tick", I also have a passion for the arts, however I am not particularly talented in anything but writing. I would love to combine these two loves of mine, but have not found a degree program for writing therapy. I am wondering..if I get my masters in mental health counseling then get a certificate in journal/poetry therapy, would that be enough to practice this in a clinical setting? I have seen from the posts that being an LPCC is what is needed for insurance reimbursement, so I am leaning toward this, although I must say it doesn't excite me as much as the expressive art therapy programs I've looked into. Does anyone have advice for this lost soul?
I know many of you are already working in the field and I wondered if you could share your experiences and what you would change about your own education knowing what you know now about the field.
Feel free to e-mail me at booklover4@ivillage.com with any suggestions.
Thank you,
Susanne Jones
