I am an Australian family therapist, and have been reading these postings with great interest over the last year or so. Family therapy, in Australia at least is heavily influenced by social constructivism, post modernism and narrative forms of therapy. While these theories and therapies are fascinating and useful in practice, I'm often left wondering "isn't there ANYTHING about us as human beings that is constant and knowable?" or is everthing socially and culturally constructed? Perhaps affect theory has some light to shed on this. Do any of you think about affect theory in a post modern world? Any thoughts would be much appreciated. Also, Don, is your paper "From Empathy to Community" available on-line, or if not how could I obtain a copy? I have to say, this discussion is endlessly interesting, every time I tune in there is something thought provoking to read! Cheers, Laurel
