Don,
It's becoming clear to me that, given my levels of interest and ignorance about affect and script theory, I'm going to need to do a good bit of reading on my own. I'll go ahead and buy and read _Shame and Pride_.
I'm interested in first understanding clearly the nature of the innate affects, and what stimulus conditions are required to trigger them. I'm naturally drawn to the questions of the neurophysiological bases for affect responses, and to modeling stimulus/affect dynamics, and it seems to me the issues I just mentioned must be clear in my mind if I want to puruse these goals. (I don't know yet if I want to pursue them, of course, but the first step seems to be studying the basic background.) I assume your book goes into these issues in some detail? Do you have any other readings to recommend around these issues, either something for a beginner, or a concise and clear presentation for an advanced student?
Thank you for your responses! You've been a most gracious host to this forum. I'll feel free to post more in the future, but for the moment, I think I have some more reading and thinking to do.
