    I attempted this post previously and apparently not all I wrote was posted, so here's another shot at it.

    Thanks for your kind welcome to the forum. I certainly agree that looking at behavior without also looking at affect makes little to no sense. It was validating to me to hear your thinking on this! What I've read, studied, pondered, and learned of shame (in recent years as a student and across my lifetime experientially) all bring me to a resounding YES to affect theory as I understand it from your and Tompkins' writing - it seems to account for so much and to make so much sense.
