I have had the same experience in my work. Each procedure can be effective. More often then not, however, the people I work with (mostly Vietnam Vets) seem to experience much of CBT as a confrontation (in a sense they are right, but the confrontation is with their thoughts and the therapist is hoping that they will learn to dispute their own thoughts apart from the therapist. EMDR is usually experienced as internal healing, that is most experience that the changes take place from the inside and are thus more likely to be "true" in the phenomenological sense.
