    I would agree with the above. As general rule you should have a sense of how well EMDR is working and if it is helpful within a few sessions (defined as between 3 and 7). This does not mean that the psychotherapy will necessarily finished in 3 - 7 sessions, but rather it is likely that you will have a clear sense of whether EMDR is being helpful or not.

    This is all subject to the overall clinical picture. EMDR is usually integrated into a broader psychotherapy and with some disorders this can take quite some time. I rarely see my patients for more than a year or so, and most for less than 6 months.
