I think some people may be more willing to attempt an affair in cyberspace than in rl because it feels safer to them (easy to escape the relationship, harder to get caught, and no STDs). Some people also think it's not really an "affair" because a cyberspace relationship isn't, in their mind, "real." It's more a fantasy to them....... Bu then, as you suggest, people's fantasies do reveal a lot about them.
