Yes, this is the same question I have to.. I think the appeal ...especially in today's society...has many social reaons as well as psychological ones. I'm referring to how the internet is serving a "function" in society for many people. It is infact multi-functional.. It could be a kinda babysitter, like the tv used to be (and still is), a confidant, alienation, loss of community, safety (can't get shot online). It can also be and outlet for sexual gratification (rather than actually hiring a rl prostitute), a way to poll public opinion, get personal feedback on yourself or ideas, obtain knowledge (knowledge =power?)....Many reasons. Like tv has been in the past, it is like "brain-candy"...no wonder people are getting addicted! lol.....Moreso because it is more interactive than tv, and there is more value in it in that sense...
