As a fellow lurker has mentioned, there is something about the internet that seems to release some stresses. It does appear to offer an outlet, and does give an opportunity to "let loose" in ways I never would consider in the real world. It can be such a relief some days, especially where I am. I'm out in the country by myself so most of the time this is how I stay in contact with people. For me, it beats long distance phone calls.
I agree with Timberwolf that this "net talk" is something that needs to be learned, and once learned, helps those of us (lurkers, net junkies and the like) the chance to communicate more effectively.
I'd also like to say that I have been lurking in the BOL forum for about six months and I'm glad to see that this specific forum has come into existence.
