As the subject implies, lurking is such an inappropriate term. One definition in the dictionary is:
" to lie in wait in a place of concealment especially for an evil purpose"
To those who "lurk", there is still a fear of losing one's anonimity, even though they can easily change their personna on a board like this.
We are all, by nature, lurkers. Take it from a couch potato like me. What is television other than the act of lurking into the lives of others, factual or fictional.
Or the myriad of CB radio owners (not so much now as in the 70s) who would forego a good piece of music to eavesdrop into the lifestyles of long haul truckers.
Much of what we do is lurking, but defined by a more euphemistic terms.
On the internet, we have the benefit of vasilating between observation (lurking) and participation.
