Most often it is the relationship that actually does the healing. From an Adlerian perspective this makes since because a trusting relationship fosters social interest which intern fosters cooperation. Trust in the therapy situation is just the beginning. Often times persons come to therapy because they lack the training and perception necessary to be able to activate a positive support network to help in overcoming challenges. Development of authentic positive relationships in work, society, and love is key. It is poor practice to foster dependency on therapy as a substitute for this. The idea is to teach skills to solve problems cooperatively and to recognize lifestyle patterns that lead to selfishness, isolation, and dysfunction. Craig
