When the Therapist is Part of the Patient's Delusional System
    Craig Tucker · 06/17/01 at 2:08 ET

A difficult spot I occasionally find my self in with my clients who have paranoid or grandiose delusions is when I become part of their delusional system. I become seen either as an enemy or as a potential convert to their perspective. I am looking for fresh ideas for building trust and social interest in the fearful ones and for turning the tables on the ones who want to convert me to their delusional system. I want to clever ideas beyond just giving space while being open and welcoming. I am looking for devices to use in Socratic questioning to help my clients move from a proselyting mode into a mode of collaborative questioning of the beliefs. Any thoughts out there?
