Forgive me, Dr. Stein, if the follwing question is a bit bizarre but I'm intrigued about this sociological subject and would like your response: If Adlerian psychology fosters the movement of striving to master the three tasks of life, could we say that the "laid back" California life-style (which, granted, may be a seriously unfair stereotype) might mean a desire for mastery that avoids the tasks and seeks fulfillment in more socially useless ways? This may be a large leap in thought but the image of striving for useful mastery juxtaposes with that of a more hedonistic lifestyle. Cordially,
Pete
