Adler referred to a "counter-fiction" that some people develop to conceal their true intentions. An individual with a hidden inferiority complex, may try to project a compensatory superiority complex to the world. Many sociopaths appear to be quite charming and lure the unsuspecting victim into befriending and trusting them. Generally, an individual who has no "hidden agenda" does not need to wear a "mask."
