Darkening of vision? - mild exhilaration! (new member)
    T.A.S. · 10/19/03 at 7:28 PM ET

I am new to meditation (at least in terms of serious attempts).

This weekend, I found some really nice altered states I've not had before. I find it easiest to focus on an image (I draw a simple shape on a blank page in think marker pen) - then as my eyes de-focus I soon start to switch off.

Now, I noticed the last few times that my vision sort of darkens here and there, accompanied by a definite feeling of trance and exhilaration. In a way, it's sort of as if a colour photo has turned to a negative. I find it hard to hold onto this state, though I did better today than the first time.

Any tips? Does the above sound familiar?

I really feel as if, for the first time, I've started to feel the separation that I've previously only felt using light / sound devices, or during altered-sleep states, such as lucid dreaming.

    With thanks,

    T.A.S.
