Hi,
I'm a pschiatric RN and a serious meditator for the past 4 years. I have noticed that my personality and behavoir have mellowed and matured, I pay better attention, listen better, focus better since I began meditating.
I am very interested in teaching meditation my patients on the locked unit where I work, I know that this skill would help those with depression and anxiety. I am more concerned about using it with psychotic patients. Might they just tune into their delusions even more? But I sense that paranoid schitzophrenics who basically have anxiety to the nth degree, could really benefit.
I have had the pleasure of talking with one of our occasional weekend MDs who teaches mindfullness meditation with his addiction patients. He really recommends I go ahead.
Does any one here have experience teaching meditation to people with psychotic disorders?
