A Hypnotherapist, yes. Also a teacher, since 1961. I have lived & taught in Asia, Australia, New Zealand & Papua New Guinea & have observed many people in a variety of trance states. I understand where you are coming from & I agree with what you are saying in a general way. I have seen hypnosis subjects including many of my own clients go into deep trance. I have been a subject for other hypnotists & have found personally that I seem to be able to go into more profound trance states when 'doing meditation.' That may be because I studied meditation long before I began studying hypnotherapy & I practise meditation, gigong & taijiquan daily & am not often a hypnosis subject. As to EMDR you may have read my contributions to the site on behavior on line. I did try to initiate a discussion on what the method actually entailed & was directed to read the literature. I have more than enough books in my personal library already & am reluctant to buy more, especially on what appears to be a fringe modality. Anyhow, as you have probably guessed, I am more into practical training than academic speculation & I am skeptical about most so-called 'scientific reasearch' in the 'behavioral & psychological sciences.' To me it's a matter if it works learn it, use it if it doesn't do something different. Most of the skills I have in these areas I learned in Asia where students follow the teacher & find out as they train what the meaning & purpose of the training is. The Western student wants to know the why of everything & know all about stuff without doing the practises. Knowing all about something is I think an absolute waste of time & effort. Having skills is useful & personally fulfilling.
