Jack Kornfield is one of the founders of modern American Buddhism (I hope he would pardon this description) and the author of several works on Buddhism, including "A Path With Heart." On an audiotape by this name he tells a story of being in a meditation retreat (perhaps as a monk in Thailand), having terrible difficulties with inner turmoil, demons, etc. His teacher, Achaan Chah, comes around and asks him how he's doing, and Kornfield tells of his great problems. Achaan Chah's reply was simply, "Very good. Continue." If you don't notice a change after a long time meditating, try something else. But by all means, continue.
