    NO. Meditation has been used as a form of healing for decades. The Native Americans used mediation as a way to prolong life, heal and for a over all goodness. I myself meditate every night and have taken numorous classes on meditation. The risk of insanity is a factor but only when meditaion "takes a turn for the worst". Meditaion can be used for good and for bad and when used either way should be done carefully.

    I had a student under me who had to seek psychiatric treatments because his meditations could not be controlled. He would slip in and out of them on a regular basis and became ill. I worked with him for months and he is doing just fine know and has build his level of controll.
